Lyme disease is caused by a bacterial infection transmitted by bites from certain types of ticks and can affect humans and animals. Dogs can develop serious symptoms after infection. We will share some tips below that are known to help prevent infection:
- Tick prevention - keep your pet current on flea & tick preventives
- Vaccination - ask your veterinarian if the Lyme vaccine could benefit your dog
- Outdoor environment - keep your lawn and bushes trimmed to deter ticks from populating in the outdoor vicinity of your home
- Indoor environment - regularly examine all bedding & carpets for signs of pests that may have hitchhiked in after walks or hikes
